The Rose of Tashkent - Miss Eglantine Brown
Illustration from children's book, written by Jocelyn Hedley, 'The Rose of Tashkent'.
"In a sweet yellow cottage on the outskirts of town
Lived a clever young mouse called Miss Eglantine Brown.
Miss Brown was a grower of roses by trade
And was never without her trowel and her spade.
She'd get up each morning, eat toast and drink tea
Then into her beautiful garden would flee.
The Sweethearts she'd water, the Cornelia's she'd stake
And each fallen leaf from the grass she would rake.
On Thursdays she'd load up her basket with care
And walk through the streets to the busy town square.
She'd sell her sweet roses by the stem or the bunch,
So busy was she there was no time for lunch!"
